Student Housing and Residence Life, in partnership with the Vulcan Materials Academic Success Center (VMASC), is bringing tutoring to the residence halls through “Study Squad” – a means to make academic success more accessible, comfortable and convenient for UAB students.
Beginning Sept. 17, students can meet up with tutors in the Cahaba Room of the New Freshman Residence Hall (900 17th St S, Birmingham, AL 35205) and get academic help with an array of subjects. Sessions will take place from 6-9 p.m. on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays and continue throughout the fall semester. The schedule is as follows:
- Sunday: Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology
- Monday: Chemistry and Physics
- Tuesday: Chemistry and Mathematics
The goal is to provide students critical academic assistance in a safe and comfortable space. Coordinators hope this innovative way of studying will relieve pressure for students who find it difficult to stop by the VSMAC in-between classes.
Are you interested in joining the Study Squad? It’s as easy as showing up! For more information and disability accommodations, contact the Vulcan Materials Academic Success Center at vmasc@uab.edu.
Note: Students will be required to sign in and out of the front of New Freshman Residence Hall, as well as in the tutoring space (Cahaba C). Students visiting the residence hall for tutoring are prohibited from other areas of the building. Those found in violation of this policy will be sent to the Office of Student Conduct for violating residential life policies.
