On Tuesday, November 14, Blazers will have the opportunity to volunteer with Rise Against Hunger. This international hunger relief organization distributes food and life-changing aid to the world’s most vulnerable. We challenge Blazers to make an impact. Shifts will be available from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Hill Student Center Ballrooms.
As a Health Promoting University, UAB makes well-being a central component of all campus activities. During the service event, students will pack nutritious meals to help those in need. They will also be able to connect with other Blazers who want to make a difference that will impact the global community. This service opportunity will also coincide with National Hunger Awareness and Homelessness Week (Nov. 13 - 21).
“It’s amazing to see what UAB students are able to accomplish for people all over the world, even just as undergraduates,” said Kevin Kirwan, Leadership & Service Council director of Logistics & Outreach for Rise Against Hunger.
In late August, the UAB Leadership and Service Council hosted a highly successful Rise Against Hunger event as part of Blazers at Bham, where first-year Blazers achieved their goal of putting together 20,520 packed meals. Those packaged meals totaled 95 boxes shipped to Convoy of Hope, a faith-based nonprofit humanitarian organization in the Philippines.
UAB strives to create an environment that fosters equity and social justice to promote well-being on campus, in our community, and around the world. By serving with Rise Against Hunger, Blazers advance the University’s mission by positively impacting world hunger and serving disadvantaged populations worldwide.
