Looking for adventure this spring break? Journey through Zion and Arches National Parks with UAB Outdoor Pursuits. University Recreation’s Outdoor Pursuits will give UAB members a chance to explore the beautiful environment of Utah. Participants will fly out to Las Vegas on March 9, the Saturday before spring break. The trip will last all week and return Sunday, March 17.
One voyage will take place along the trails of Zion National Park. Home to sprawling sandstone canyons, Zion offers avid hikers a chance to enjoy their many pathways. There are over 20 different tracks ranging from beginner levels to more challenging endeavors. Participants will sightsee and hike several trails.
The second national park, Arches National Park, gives participants grand, red-orange vistas to observe. Like Zion, Arches has many trails for hikers of all skill levels. Prepare to watch the sunset and stargaze from Delicate Arch, one the most famous natural attractions in the country.
Participants will camp at both locations. Camping spots include Watchman campgrounds, Devils Garden campgrounds and outside the Las Vegas area.
To join in the excitement, apply on the Outdoor Pursuits’ Trips Series page or by calling (205) 996-4913. Tickets are on sale at a special preemptive price, costing $375 for students and University Recreation members and $425 for faculty, staff and others interested. Prices will rise after February 1. The fee covers lodging, travel, van rentals and all necessary gear and equipment. It does not include clothing, food and the ticket to-and-from Las Vegas.
Spots are limited with only 10 available, so apply soon. The deadline is February 18. A pre-trip meeting will be held Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 6 p.m. in the Outdoor Pursuits office in the Recreation Center.
