Move-in at the University of Alabama at Birmingham begins this week, starting Aug. 16, and excitement is mounting for new and returning students to be on campus for the fall semester. Here are some quick tips for making the move-in process as efficient as possible.
Before arrival, students must check their emails for a communication from the Office of Student Housing and Residence Life highlighting key information about their housing assignment, move-in date & time, their mailing address, and much more. Read this information thoroughly before coming to campus for move-in. There will also be directions about completing the housing training module, which must be completed prior to check-in.
Pro tip
- To minimize wait time, please do not arrive before your designated move-in time.
- Ensure all boxes and un-boxed belongings are labeled with your residence hall, room number, and name.
Expect to see high volumes of traffic, especially around first-year residence halls: Blazer, Gold and McMahon. Navigating traffic will be one of the central parts of move-in. Several construction projects are happening around the university, and having an alternate route could help. Still, we do anticipate some congestion and traffic flow changes. UAB Police will monitor side streets during move-in days.
Students will be permitted around 20 minutes to move belongings into their rooms. Vehicles must be moved away from the loading zone as soon as it is unloaded. Vehicles with few or no items should park in the 16th Street parking deck.
Pro tip
- Because of the limited space due to construction, do not bring box trucks or trailers.
- Oversized transport will be directed to park and unload away from the residence hall entrances to facilitate the optimal traffic flow.
