On Thursday, Dec. 1, UAB Wellness Promotion, AIDS Alabama, and Peer Health Educators hosted a health education expo to showcase students’ service-learning projects as part of CHHS (Community Health and Human Services) 426: Wellness Promotion Peer Education. Attendees gathered on the North Plaza of the Campus Green to participate in peer-led activities promoting alcohol safety, healthy relationships and sexual health.
During the showcase, students also had the opportunity to receive free STI testing coordinated by the office of Wellness Promotion with AIDS Alabama as a part of their mission to educate and decrease the stigma surrounding sex education. Additionally the 1917 Clinic hosted a World AIDS Day event and displayed an art installation of miniature red ribbons, an international symbol worn to spread awareness and support for people living with HIV, and encouraged participants to #Re+hinkHIV.
