It was the biggest fair yet! UAB's own Career Center and Vulcan Material Academic Success Center co-hosted the Major Discovery and Career Expo at Bartow Arena on Wednesday, Sept. 26. At the 3-hour event, industry representatives and UAB faculty educated new and returning students about their major options and the careers that correspond with each academic track. Over 80 employers were present and more than 750 undergraduate and graduate students, dressed in business casual attire, learned about their career possibilities. One participating employer said, "I think this event was an excellent opportunity for our organization. We had a great chance to network and informed individuals about our site. We look forward to more opportunities where we can engage with the UAB community.”
It is UAB’s priority to make sure students are familiar with their chosen major and well-equipped to enter the workforce. Undeclared students were encouraged to attend to explore the academic offerings of each school, as well as what local and corporate businesses are looking for in the students they recruit. Event hosts were incredibly pleased by the turn out.
UAB continues to be a top-ranked university in post-graduation employment, largely because of opportunities like the Major Discovery and Career Expo.
