BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —UAB students took part in a food drive of a different kind on Friday. They held a "Pack the Pantry" food drive.
Students didn't have to head to the grocery store to gather canned goods. All they had to do was offer to contribute some of their dining dollars or Blazer Bucks and then pick out which foods they wanted to donate, though they could also use cash or credit cards to buy them.
The food will stock the Department of Student Advocacy's on-campus food pantry.
They collected 1,129 food items. Once the food pantry is maxed out, they'll give extra food to the local chapter of Feeding America. They'll make that decision on Monday.
