    On Monday, Aug. 29, the first day of classes for the fall semester, the UAB football team took to the field for its first official scrimmage game after the program was cut on Dec. 2, 2014.

    After what has been a long and shaky road, support for the program was seen in full force on Monday. UAB administration dubbed it a “historic day” for UAB, which began with the official groundbreaking of the new football operations facility at 9 a.m. At 7 p.m. the first official scrimmage of the year kicked off. An estimated 4,500 people, including nearly 2,000 students, attended the game at the BBVA Compass soccer complex.

    The UAB men’s soccer team scored two goals to upset the No. 15 Kentucky Wildcats in front of a sizeable home crowd on Saturday, Sept. 8.

    The UAB Ice Hockey Club defeated Mississippi State in its first ever exhibition game at the Pelham Civic Complex and Ice Arena on Saturday, April 2. Admission was free for all attendees.

    The UAB men’s soccer team lost to the Tulsa Golden Hurricane 1-0 on Friday, Sept. 9, falling to a 1-2-2 record.

    With 10 seconds remaining in the game, the Blazers were close to the goal, but not close enough to score and tie up the game.

    At a press conference on Tuesday, April 5, Director of Athletics Mark Ingram officially announced Robert Ehsan as the sixth head coach of the men’s basketball team.

    The risk of concussions in heavy contact sports, particularly football, is increasingly being brought to the public’s awareness. However, there are no medical tests to reliably diagnose concussions and few methods of treatment.

    UAB will net $50,000 a year from sports apparel outfitter Under Armour, per a seven-year agreement recently signed by the university.
