Basketball games to watch for this season

It’s time to set alarms and fight sleep in Sterne Library while writing papers and cramming for exams. Time to get phone numbers from classmates and then only text them for notes. When I’m not studying this year though, I will likely be at a Blazer basketball game. The men finished last season with 26 wins and only seven losses. This will be the first year for the team under the leadership of Head Coach Robert Ehsan after Jerod Haase left for Stanford. Although I will probably be in the crowd or in front of the television for every game, here are the games I’m most excited about this year:

In front of a sold-out crowd of 8,728 people, the UAB men’s basketball team fell to Auburn on Saturday, Dec. 3 by a score of 74-70.

The UAB men's basketball team suffered its first loss at home since 2014 on Monday, Nov. 14 after falling 84-74 to the Furman Paladins.
UAB had the fifth longest home court win streak in the nation going into the game. The loss also dropped UAB to a 1-1 record for the season.

Last week, the UAB men's basketball team traveled to Kansas City, Mo. to participate in the CBE Hall of Fame Classic and came back to Birmingham with a 1-1 record and a third place title.

The UAB men’s basketball team’s long-standing winning streak came to an end on Thursday, Jan. 28 after they stumbled 69-62 against conference opponent Western Kentucky University in Diddle Arena.

The fifth annual "Hoops on the Green" held on Thursday, Oct. 13 officially launched the 2016-17 season for the men's and women's basketball teams. The event introduced fans to the new players and to Robert Ehsan, first year head coach for men's basketball.
