UAB Sustainability was one of the first recipients of the Smart Energy Decisions’ (SED) DEI Impact Awards at the Net Zero Forum in September. The department and the Solar House and Sustainable Community were recognized for their work with local under-resourced communities to showcase renewable energy, energy efficiency, urban farming, and habitat protection.
“The work to create a sustainable future must include meaningful conversations with all members of the community,” said Bambi Ingram, manager of the department. “UAB Sustainability is proud to be recognized for the inclusivity of our programs.”
The DEI Impact Award winners were selected by a panel of judges representing energy customer peers and industry experts. Nominations for the awards were accepted for projects and industry influencers from commercial, industrial, institutional, and government organizations across seven categories.
Ingram traveled to Phoenix, Arizona to accept the award. She shared the stage with other winners including Google, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Microsoft, and the New York City Housing Authority.
The Solar House and Sustainable Community is a living laboratory on campus showcasing the power of solar energy, the importance of sustainable building practices, and the positive impact of native plants on local wildlife. To schedule a tour, visit the Sustainability website.
