Rett J. Grover has been named chief executive officer of UAB Callahan Eye Hospital & Clinics.
“It has been the privilege of a lifetime to work alongside our world-class physicians, researchers and health care professionals, and I am humbled by the opportunity to lead this great organization into the future,” Grover said. “In its 55 years, the UAB Callahan Eye Hospital has grown to become nationally recognized for its dedication to clinical quality and patient experience, and I look forward to building on this already distinguished reputation.”
His goals for UAB Callahan Eye Hospital & Clinics include expanding and enhancing access to the highest quality of care, continuing clinical excellence, and continuing to recruit and retain world-class clinical providers.
Grover completed his administrative residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi, and assumed the position of director of Business Operations for the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Rehabilitation in 2010. After several years at UMMC, he joined UAB Callahan Eye Hospital & Clinics as the operations administrator. In 2015, Grover became the hospital’s chief operating officer, and in November 2017, he transitioned into the role of interim chief executive officer. During his time spent as interim chief executive officer, the hospital saw significant operational progress and financial growth.
“We are very fortunate to have someone of Rett’s experience and capabilities to lead the important work of the Callahan Eye Hospital,” said Reid Jones, chief operating officer of the UAB Health System. “The Callahan Eye Hospital has a rich history of outstanding patient care, and I look forward to working with Rett in this new capacity as the organization continues to provide excellent care to those we are entrusted to serve.”
Grover is a member of the Alabama Hospital Association Birmingham Regional Council and the American College of Healthcare Executives. He serves as a board member for the Alabama Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the Ophthalmology Services Foundation and the Eyesight Foundation of Alabama.
Grover completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Alabama, and received his Master of Science degree in health administration and Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He then went on to complete his administrative residency at UMMC.
Grover replaces Brian Spraberry, who served as chief executive officer for seven years and then transitioned into the role of chief administrative officer with the UAB Health System.
