Welcome to the Compliance Certification for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) reaffirmation of accreditation for the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Over the four decades since becoming an autonomous campus in the University of Alabama System, UAB has evolved into Alabama’s largest single employer, with an annual economic impact exceeding $5 billion, and a world-renowned university and academic medical center. We continue to provide innovative academic programs in a range of disciplines and promote the arts throughout our campus and community, as we fulfill the five pillars of our mission—education, research, service, patient care and economic development. As part of advancing that mission, our entire institution is deeply committed to the SACSCOC accreditation process and enhancing the education of our students, from undergraduates to clinicians. The reaffirmation process has afforded us the opportunity to examine our educational programs, co-curricular activities, administrative functions, policies, and practices and to focus on continuous improvement in all areas. Consequently, we will even better equip our students to take on leadership roles that transform our community, state and nation, and to discover the knowledge that will change our world.
