Dual Enrollment

Apply for dual enrollment/dual credit to take courses as a non-degree student at UAB while you are enrolled as a high school junior or senior. Apply credit earned at UAB toward college requirements and your high school diploma.
Dual enrollment is available to students attending high schools that have a partnership with UAB.

Dual enrollment students may register for up to six credit hours per semester.

Getting Started

Your first step is meeting with your high school guidance counselor to discuss eligibility. With their support, you can apply for admission to UAB’s Dual Enrollment program.

  • In this program, you will be taking college-level coursework at UAB. Deadlines, grades, and professional communication are very important. Please make sure that you have the time, energy, and resources necessary to complete courses successfully.
  • The courses you take and the grades you earn as a dual enrollment student at UAB will become part of your academic history. When you apply to college, you will have to report your attendance and these grades will be considered as part of your college GPA.

Application

  • A minimum high school GPA of 3.0 is required for admission
  • Complete the application
  • Documents Needed:
    • Dual Enrollment Signature Page signed by student, legal guardian, and high school counselor
    • High School Transcript
    • Test Scores or Placement Assessments are required for some courses

*Applications submitted after the deadline will be considered on a space-available basis. You are encouraged to apply as early as possible to ensure ample time to review your application and render an admission decision.

Cost

  • View UAB’s Detailed Tuition and Fees chart. The Dual Enrollment Program tuition rate is listed under In-State Costs, Out-of-State Costs, and Online Courses Offered.
  • Tuition fees are based on whether you are an Alabama resident and if you are taking courses online or on campus.

Courses

  • All courses taken by high school students must be approved by their high school counselor.
  • Students are responsible for confirming their high school’s dual enrollment policy with their high school counselor. The student’s high school is responsible for determining how credit is awarded and applied to high school graduation requirements.
  • Dual and concurrently enrolled students can take a maximum of six credit hours per semester
