UAB recognizes the closure of the historic Birmingham-Southern College (BSC) as a great loss to Birmingham, the state of Alabama, and beyond. During this time of transition, UAB will offer continued support and flexible accommodations to students affected by BSC’s closure. Please review the information below regarding next steps for those wishing to continue their education journey by transferring to UAB.
Transfer Application Process for BSC Students
- Visit www.uab.edu/transfer to complete the online application as a transfer student.
- Ignore the $40 application fee page after application submission - UAB Undergraduate Admissions will apply a fee waiver to your application the next business day.
- Submit official transcripts from each college or university you’ve attended.
- Students who have completed college-level work in a country other than the United States also must provide an evaluation from an approved credentials evaluation agency. Learn more about international transfer credits.
- Recommended deadline to apply for Fall 2024 semester: June 1, 2024.
Transfer Requirements
- Cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale) after completing 24 semester hours of transferable college-level work.
- Good academic standing at all colleges and universities you have attended.
- If you have fewer than 24 credit hours of transferable work, then you also must meet the minimum admission requirements for entering freshmen. This would require submitting a final high school transcript and any applicable ACT or SAT scores.
Transfer Scholarships and Financial Aid for BSC Transfer Students
UAB’s deadline for Fall 2024 Transfer Merit Scholarships has been extended to June 1 to accommodate our BSC transfer students and considering the FAFSA delay this year. Merit scholarship consideration is automatic upon a student’s admission to UAB and does not require a separate application.
UAB is still awaiting student data from the Department of Education and hopes to begin awarding financial aid packages as of mid-April. BSC transfer students are encouraged to submit their FAFSA to UAB as soon as possible to receive a comprehensive federal aid package in a timely manner. UAB’s FAFSA Code is 001052.
Transfer Credits
UAB has a historical database for transfer credits that shows how credits have transferred from other institutions nationwide to UAB. Students may find this database at www.uab.edu/transfercredits. Students may also see how IB and AP credits transfer over by visiting www.uab.edu/ap. Students can find individual degree plans via the UAB Undergraduate Course Catalog.
After Admission
Once offered admission to the University, students may find their next steps toward enrollment by going to www.uab.edu/accepted. This checklist will provide direct links to BlazerNET and BlazerID Central, our orientation registration page, and more.
Transfer Housing
At this time, UAB’s upperclassmen housing application is in a waitlist-only status. Fall 2024 transfer students may log in through MyHousing on BlazerNET after admission and apply for the notification/waitlist via the MyHousing link for upperclassmen. UAB’s Office of Off-Campus Student and Family Engagement offers an Off-Campus Housing Database that helps students find rental properties as well as roommates and other resources close to campus.
Transfer Tours
UAB offers tours every Monday-Friday at least twice a day, with a specific transfer tour every Friday at 1:00 pm. Students may register for a tour at www.uab.edu/visit where they’ll tour campus, meet current students, and learn more about UAB’s transfer admissions and scholarships from Undergraduate Admissions staff.
