It is our mission to provide opportunities for teachers and administrators to extend their understanding and practice of inquiry-based teaching and learning as they help students explore, question, and construct scientific understanding of the world around them.
ALAHASP is a University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) science education reform initiative providing professional development opportunities for teachers, consultation and support for administrators, and materials for hands-on science activities. ALAHASP at UAB provides a variety of professional development opportunities in K-8 science education. Workshops include science module training and follow-up, Honing Your Skills© Series, The Private Eye®, Leadership Development, Administrative Development, and Connecting with Scientists.
ALAHASP is funded by the Alabama Commission on Higher Education, school system partners, foundations, and corporate partners.
ALAHASP staff, since 1994, have planned, conducted, and/or facilitated over a thousand science workshops/events in 47 school systems. ALAHASP has served as a catalyst for school systems, corporations, and community partners to support science education reform in Alabama's K-8 classrooms.
