UAB AASSO is the student organization of the African American Studies program. Membership is open to our students and any UAB student interested in African and African American history and culture.
Key Activities and Accomplishments
- Sponsors lectures about topics that enhance the knowledge and understanding of the history and culture of Africans and African-descended people in the Americas
- Assists the program in recruitment efforts
- Assisted in the creation of the Pan African Student Coalition, bringing together African and African-descended student groups on campus
- Builds strong support networks through unity, interaction, and participation
- Sponsors programs and events emphasizing the relevance and significance of the African American Studies program at UAB
- Engages in outreach activities to local schools and community colleges
