Dear Lovely Readers of PoemMemoirStory,

The leaves are changing, which means it’s that time of year again. Time to renew your subscription to PoemMemoirStory or become a first-time subscriber. We know you’ve already started to write the check, but we like to say it anyway: we continue to work to be the best PoemMemoirStory you’ll ever know, and we’re cheap! Just $10 for one year, $15 for two, and a mere $18 for three years to ensure a steady stream to your mailbox of some of the most remarkable poems, stories, and memoirs women write. PoemMemoirStory 15, for instance, showcases a wonderful interview with writer, Emily Rapp Black, whose book, A Still Point of the Turning World, was a finalist for the Pen Literary Award in Nonfiction and whose blog “Little Seal” about the beautiful short life of her son Ronan was named by the Huffington Post as one of the top 25 blogs of 2012.

PoemMemoirStory 15 is a poetry powerhouse issue and celebrates the poems of Kate Daniels, Mary Ruefle, Colleen McElroy, and others, including Ashley Jones and Lauren Slaughter, recent winners of the Rona Jaffe Award for Emerging Women Writers. We’re also proud to be publish the memoir of new writer Sharanna Polk’s “Forever Flint” about the lost boys of Flint, Michigan, as well sparkling new creative nonfiction including Grace Cho’s “Crust Girl” and Zhanna Slor’s “What’s Five Feet in Front of You.” We’re thrilled to give a home to the new fiction of Yellena Urazbaeva’s “The Gospel According to Mother,” Judith Teitelman’s “Guesthouse for Genesha,” and Alina Stefanescu’s “Carpool,” and several others.

We know you’ll stay with us just to get access to the words of these and other great women writers, but never forget that every cent you send is put to the excellent use of supporting the only women’s literary journal in the state of Alabama. When you subscribe to PoemMemoirStory, you support women writers everywhere — and if you happen to BE a writer, you know just how important that is. You may reach us here. Our site includes links to reviews, excerpts from back issues, and submission guidelines through Submittable, since we’ve gone completely online now when you submit your work to us. Several of our back issues are also available on Kindle too. And if you’re a writer, please don’t forget that our reading period is January 1st to March 30th.

Finally, we continue to collect children’s books for “Aid to Inmate Mothers Story Book Project” at the Tutwiler Women’s Prison in Alabama. At each PMS publication party, we have been collecting children’s books for incarcerated mothers to record for their children as bedtime stories. It’s part of the vision of PoemMemoirStory to encourage stories and reading for the future young readers and writers of Alabama and beyond, finding a world of hope in stories even behind prison walls.

Thank you with all our hearts for your support of PoemMemoirStory.
