I am happy to say that I started my career in the mathematics department at UAB. There was (and is) a warm and collegial spirit among the members of the department which both fosters and inspires an atmosphere of learning. Some of my fondest memories involve enthusiastic discussions with faculty members and students both in and out of classes. Perhaps more than anything, I personally benefited from the opportunities provided by the department's Fast-Track Math program which allowed me to actively participate in research projects, even as an undergraduate. Over the years, I have grown to appreciate more and more the many things I learned during my time at UAB; a solid foundation in mathematics being only an important subset. All told, the experience has served me quite well.
