M.S. 2015 Career: Senior Manager of Reporting and Analytics at Albemarle Corporation; field of People Analytics since 2015

I started my journey at UAB in 2013, under the guidance of Dr. Dale, following my matriculation through Miles College. I knew I loved numbers and tech since I was a child, and where I thought I knew I wanted to eventually be, a cryptographer. That bug bit me when I was at Miles College and a member of Miles College Intelligence Community: Center of Academic Excellence Scholar (MC IC CAE) under the Office of the Director of National Intelligence(ODNI) and participating in the National Security Analysis & Intelligence Summer Seminar (NSAISS) in DC.

Upon graduating in 2013 from Miles College, I was met with a decision between North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University (NCA&T) and The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and the way the dominos fell, the Universe saw it fit to end up at UAB under the tutelage of Dr. Dale. As I started the journey at UAB, there were so many avenues I discovered within my first year that would have created a cross functional degree program with mathematics and other departments that created a cross in the theory and application which speaks to me; however, it was very difficult to find related research advisors to assist, as again, there were not students doing such. With that being said, I turned to areas that spoke to me and those lived under Dr. Chernov as well as Dr. Oversteegen. With the guidance of Dr. Nkashama, I was able to complete the program and begin a leadership rotational program with, then, BBVA Bank under the recommendation of Alan Register. From there, I took off in the space that marries mathematics, tech and psychology which is now the field of People Analytics. Now, almost ten years later, I'm grateful for the rigor, skills and overall experience I learned from the institutions I attended that made me who I am today. I hope this provides insight into possibilities for those who are starting a journey without immediate examples to guide you.
