Wayne Heard and Rep. Terri SewellWayne Heard and Rep. Terri SewellDepartment of Government alumnus Wayne Heard, now a council executive assistant for the City of Birmingham and law student, attended the 2015 Congressional Black Caucus's "Boot Camp" program in July.

Heard was nominated by U.S. Rep. Terri A. Sewell along with Virginia College MBA student Myisha Davis to join 35 participants from across the country for the leadership development program from July 19-25, 2015.

Heard said the nomination by Sewell was "an honor" in a news release from the office of Rep. Sewell.

According to the release, the "Boot Camp" program "is designed to help participants develop the expertise to become the leaders, strategists, and key staff members who will conduct successful candidate and issue campaigns or lead public and private sector policy work."
