UAB Department of Biology professors Steven Austad, PhD, and Jim McClintock, PhD, will both be speakers at TEDxBirmingham 2016.

At the event, speakers from a variety of backgrounds will share bold, new ideas through short talks of 18 minutes or less. TEDxBirmingham 2016 will also feature artistic performances and hands-on, interactive experiences. Participants represent a cross-disciplinary mix of people, ranging from civic and business leaders to educators, technologists, artists, and more.

Dr. Austad, Chair of the Department of Biology, will speak about what human aging will look like in the 21st century and what it means for the way we think about our life trajectory. “For the first time in history,” he says, “aging is the number one threat to global health. That’s about to change.”

Dr. McClintock, Endowed University Professor of Polar and Marine Biology, will speak about the dramatic impacts of Antarctic climate change on marine wildlife and what we can do about it.

Space at TEDxBirmingham 2016 is extremely limited; everyone who applies will not get a ticket. For those who are invited to purchase tickets, the cost will be $100 and includes admission, food, beverages, and a gift bag. A limited number of reduced price tickets will be offered to those who cannot afford full price tickets.

Applications will be open until midnight on January 31, 2016. Invitations are NOT issued on a first come, first served basis.
