Birmingham visual and performing artist, poet, writer and speaker Ada J. Womack will give a guest lecture Monday, Feb. 23, as part of an interactive University of Alabama at Birmingham event focused on the historical and current lives of African-Americans.

UAB Department of Music instructor and UAB Gospel Choir director Kevin P. Turner, D.D., will host the Black History Month event, set for 7:30-8:30 p.m. in UAB’s Mary Culp Hulsey Recital Hall, 950 13th St. South. The Gospel Choir will perform. This event is free and open to the UAB community and the public. Guests are urged to arrive early, as parking is limited. Donations to the UAB Gospel Choir to support the group’s outreach efforts will be accepted. The Department of Music is part of the UAB College of Arts and Sciences.
