"When invaders go unnoticed: the case of Gracilaria vermiculophylla in the British Isles"
SA Krueger-Hadfield, CA Magill*, N Mieszkowska, EE Sotka, CA Maggs. Cryptogamie Algologie.
In this recently published a paper we documented the presence of the widespread, non-native seaweed Gracilaria vermiculophylla at several sites in Ireland, England, and Wales. This seaweed is a case study in "invaders going unnoticed," as the genus is morphologically and taxonomically challenging, even for specialists. These populations are important because we need to gain a better understanding of where this species is in order to mitigate future invasions in the marine environment.
