The 2015 issue of the Vulcan Historical Review (VHR) won third prize in the Nash History Journal competition sponsored by Phi Alpha Theta (PAT), the national history honor society. VHR is completely student-written and student-edited by undergraduate and graduate students at UAB.

"I greatly appreciate the time and effort [the] chapter devotes to produce such an outstanding historical journal," says Dr. Graydon A. Tunstall, PAT Executive Director. "The continued high quality of [the] publication clearly exemplifies the dedication . . . to the study of history."

"This is a great achievement for our students and faculty," says Dr. Walter Ward, faculty advisor to the UAB chapter of Phi Alpha Theta. "Since all the papers published were written and edited by students, this award demonstrates how effective our faculty are in teaching and how much our students are learning in the classroom, and the dedication both groups bring to UAB to produce excellent outcomes. This is the second time in the past three years that the VHR has placed in the Nash Journal Prize, which is a very competitive national award. I'm really proud for everyone who worked on this year's edition."
