Dr. Nicole C. Riddle, assistant professor in the Department of Biology, has won a National Science Foundation CAREER Award. Dr. Riddle will be funded from February 1, 2016 to January 31, 2017 for “HP1 Protein Functions in Gene Regulation and Chromatin Structure.”

Dr. Riddle studies various aspects of epigenetics in plants and animals using the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster. In January 2015, she was named the 16th newest investigator of the UAB Nutrition and Obesity Research Center.

These awards are the National Science Foundation’s most prestigious awards in support of junior faculty who “exemplify the role of teacherscholars through outstanding research, excellent education and the integration of education and research within the context of the mission of their organizations.”
