Art & Art Historyart class notes

Merrilee Challiss, (‘94) was featured in New American Paintings issue, SOUTH #118 this summer and is currently an artist-in-residence at The Starry Night Residency Program in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico.

Angie May, M.A. Art History (’14) is an instructor of Art History at Auburn University where she teaches global art history courses.

Biology

Dr. Heidi Umphrey (B.S. ‘93, M.S. ‘97, M.D. ‘01) is Chief of the Breast Imaging Section in the Department of Radiology at UAB Medical School.

Sara Jackson (’12) co-owns Funktionart, a design studio in Birmingham—complete with machine shop and metal foundry—that creates custom pieces out of salvaged materials.

Ashley Jones (’12) earned her MFA and is now on the Creative Writing faculty at the Alabama School of Fine Arts. She recently was awarded the Rona Jaffe Writer’s Foundation Award.

Sarah Chamberlain Kelly (’13) is an elementary literacy tutor with Americorps and lives in Washington D.C. She plans to pursue a career in literacy advocacy.

Jordan Price (‘14) works for EWTN as the assistant to the VP of Theology and is working on set with producers for live shows fielding and editing viewer responses.

Neha Patel (’15) accepted a fellowship to attend Auburn University’s Masters program in Technical Writing.

Wayne Heard (’12) was chosen to participate in the 2015 Congressional Black Caucus “Boot Camp” sponsored by Congresswoman Terri Sewell.

Brad Watts (‘12) has been named Legislative Counsel to the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration and National Interest.

Tiffany Jolley (‘12) is working at Illinois Public Media as a producer and reporter, producing “Morning Edition” and reports on social justice issues.

Rachel Hicks (M.P.A. ’13) is now working as a Foreign Affairs Officer, Office of Multilateral and Nuclear Affairs in Washington DC.

Eddy Stewart (’06) made it to the Las Vegas finals in the seventh season of “American Ninja Warrior.”

Orkan Ismayilov (B.S. ’11, M.S. ‘13) is a Ph.D. student and Teaching Fellow at the University of North Texas, as well as the Regional Director of the Borgen Project, an organization focusing on world poverty reduction.

Robert Jones (’13) accepted a position as a Correctional Officer with the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Vicki Carleton (M.S. ’14) is now employed by the Southern Company as an IT Security Architect.

Kyle Jones (‘14) was hired as a cybercrime analyst for Wal Mart at corporate headquarters in Bentonville, AR.

Amanda Fields (’15) accepted a position as a Community Resource Officer with Shelby County Community Corrections.

Brad Barnett (‘06) graduated with honors in Philosophy and went on to receive his master’s degree in Urban Planning at UT Austin. He is currently a project manager at Calthorpe Associates in Denver, CO.

Jessica Francavilla (‘10) is employed as a production runner for AEG Live, Metrodome in Chicago.

Michael Mellett (‘98) graduated with honors in Philosophy and then earned his master’s degree in Philosophy from the University of South Carolina. He is currently the creative director of general marketing at Sirius Radio and lives in New York, NY.

Joshua Zaslawsky (‘13) after taking a year off to intern at a local law office, is attending Duke Law School.

Psychology

Katherine Stewart Ph.D. (‘96) is now the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs and Learning Strategies at the University of North Carolina.

Theatretheatre class notes

Anthony Irons (‘95) was nominated for a Joseph Jefferson Award as best supporting actor for his role in King Hedley II at the Congo Theatre Company in Chicago.

Shinelle Azoroh (‘07) appeared on NBC’s “The Night Shift.”

Stephen Webb (‘09) has been awarded the Mary Marlin Fisher Playwriting Award. He is finishing his graduate studies at Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama.

Leah Huebner (‘12) has been featured in new commercials for Century 21 and Starbucks and will appear on subaru.com.

Joshua Butler (‘13) signed by the prestigious Stewart Talent Agency, had a substantial role on NBC’s “Chicago P.D.”

Kimberly Jade Tompkins (‘14) won a New York Screenplay Contest Empire Award for her historical drama “Hidden West,” and was recently hired as personal assistant to Julie Hébert, a highly successful television writer whose credits include the series “ER,” “West Wing,” and “American Crime.”
