Arts & Sciences Magazine CAS News April 19, 2017

Right now is such an exciting time on campus, and not just because the flowers are blooming and the birds are singing. With the approval of our new Arts & Sciences building, scheduled to be open in Fall 2019, we are embarking on an exciting journey to construct a stunning space for our faculty and students. When the building is complete, it will be a significant achievement of our College’s Strategic Plan, which outlines specific goals to provide modern teaching facilities, technologies, and collaborative spaces for our faculty, staff and students.

But it will take all of us working together to see this project through to its completion. Fortunately, we have an incredible community of people in the College of Arts and Sciences—our faculty, staff, students, alumni, and donors—who will come together to ensure that the new building is well supported and well used. We will break ground this summer, and from there the activity will rapidly increase. I encourage you to come to campus to see the progress of the building, and attend one of our many College events, from lectures to performances and exhibitions. We would love to see you and highlight our people and projects.

During this season of growth and renewal, we are grateful that the College is thriving across all of our departments and disciplines. Enrollment is up again for the third consecutive semester, and we’ve launched several new majors and introduced new degree tracks to appeal to our current and prospective students. We continue to recruit some of the best faculty in the nation, and our international reputation continues to expand as we attract students from across the globe and as our faculty, students and alumni make their mark on every continent.

Our community is rich, diverse, engaged and enthusiastic. From support for student scholarships, to cutting-edge research, to incredible artistic talent, this issue highlights some of the people who make the College of Arts and Sciences such a remarkable place to study, teach and work.

I look forward to sharing more about the building and our continued academic successes in the coming months.

Go Blazers!
R.E. Palazzo, Dean
