Rebecca HydeRebecca HydeRebecca Hyde, a junior international studies major and a member of the UAB Honors College’s Experiential Learning Scholars Program, was awarded a William Jefferson Clinton Scholarship.

In 2014, Hyde was awarded the Critical Languages Scholarship, which took her to Oman to study Arabic. This summer, she studied at the American University in Dubai after being awarded the William Jefferson Clinton Scholarship.

“With a degree in international studies and a media studies interdisciplinary minor, I hope to create educational programming about the cultures of Middle East here in the United States,” Hyde says.

Elora Robbani, a senior philosophy major, has also been awarded the William Jefferson Clinton Scholarship to study at American University in Dubai this fall.

Elora RobbaniElora Robbani “The Clinton Scholarship will be an experience that will hopefully provide me with a perspective on how to globalize optometry, providing free eye exams and materials in areas of the Middle East that may not have ready access to such resources,” said Robbani.

Robbani is a member of the UAB Honors College’s University Honors Program and the Early Medical School Acceptance Program.

While in Dubai, Robbani will explore academic interests in Middle Eastern studies in preparation for a career in optometry. She will enter optometry school in the fall of 2016.
