Cristin Gavin, Ph.D., a Co-Director of the UAB Undergraduate Neuroscience Program and Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurobiology, has been named as a recipient of a 2016 UAB Outstanding Academic Advising Award.
Gavin was recognized as Outstanding Faculty Advisor by the UAB National Alumni Society and the Committee on Academic Advising, which select recipients "who have demonstrated qualities associated with outstanding academic advising of students or outstanding academic advising administration."
Gavin teaches for the Undergraduate Neuroscience Program, Science and Technology Honors Program, and the Graduate School, and is a Co-Director of the UAB Post-baccalaureate Research Education Program (PREP).
"In addition to teaching and administrative roles with the UNP, Dr. Gavin provides academic advising to the neurobiology undergraduates to allow them to successfully plan and execute their degree path at UAB," said Gwendalyn King, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurobiology. "Dr. Gavin has also been nominated for a national academic advising award. The department is proud that Dr. Gavin’s contributions were recognized by the UAB community today."
Gavin was nominated by Whitney Woodard, a College and Arts and Sciences advisor for neuroscience and psychology students.
Other recipients of Outstanding Academic Advising Award were Justin Mackey in the Athletics Department, who received the Outstanding Academic Advisor (Primary Role) award, and Brooke Walker in the School of Health Professions, who received the Outstanding New Advisor award.
