Colin Davis. Colin Davis, chair of the Department of History, has been elected to the Executive Committee of the Labor and Working Class History Association (LAWCHA).

LAWCHA is a group of historians, labor educators, and working-class activists who seek to promote public and scholarly awareness of labor and working-class history through research, writing, and organizing. They publish Labor: Studies in Working-Class History, a scholarly journal focused on social movements and institutions based on industrial labor along with other labor systems and social contexts (agricultural work, slavery, unpaid and domestic labor, informal sector, the professions, etc.). The association also sponsors national and regional conferences and awards several grants and prizes.

Dr. Davis has studied labor relations for much of his academic career. He came to UAB as an assistant professor and found Birmingham to be an ideal city for the study of labor relations — "its vibrant industrial and labor history makes it a perfect incubator for studying workers."
