Dr. Benjamin Yancey, Chemistry Postdoctoral Fellow for Dr. Sergey Vyazovkin, was recently awarded the Fall 2013 CIBA Young Scientist Travel Award by the Younger Chemists Committee (YCC). This award will help to support Dr. Yancey’s travel expenses to present his work at an American Chemical Society national or regional meeting.
Dr. Yancey also received a travel award for Fall from the UAB Office of Postdoctoral Education.
Benjamin Yancey received his B.S. in chemistry in 2007, his M.S. in chemistry in 2009, and completed his Ph.D. in chemistry in August of 2011 at the University of Mississippi. His undergraduate and graduate research was focused on polymer electrolytes and their properties under Prof. Jason Ritchie.
In the fall of 2010, he worked as a research associate at the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he worked on hybrid materials under Prof. Eugenia Kharlampieva. This work culminated in a patent application in June 2011. Since September 2011 he has been a Postdoctoral Fellow at UAB working with Prof. Sergey Vyazovkin. His current research focuses on the thermodynamics and kinetics of thermally induced reactions on the nanoscale versus the bulk scale.
