Glenn Feldman received the Anne B. and James B. McMillan Book Prize from the University of Alabama Press for his book The Irony of the Solid South: Democrats, Republicans, and Race, 1865-1944.


The annual award is given to a manuscript “representing outstanding scholarship in the field of American literary studies,” according to the publisher’s website. The prize includes a cash award and full publication of the work.

In his book, Feldman looked closely at the state of Alabama and its politics, but also examined surrounding Southern states.
