Congratulations to Dr. Karolina Mukhtar on her promotion to Associate Professor and award of tenure!

Dr. Mukhtar joined UAB in 2010 as an Assistant Professor. She is a broadly trained molecular plant biologist with over 10 years of experience studying various aspects of plant-microbe interactions using genetic and biochemical approaches. Research in Dr. Mukhtar's lab focuses on the interface between the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana and several of its most devastating pathogens, including fungi and bacteria. At the center of her research program is the Unfolded Protein Response.

Dr. Mukhtar is a highly respected teacher and mentor. In 2013 she was named one of 11 inaugural UAB Faculty Fellows in Service Learning. In Spring 2015 she was named the Outstanding Faculty Mentor by UAB’s Office of Disability Support Services. Dr. Mukhtar is an invaluable asset to our department, and we are so proud of everything she has accomplished in her six years at UAB.
