The BanglaBraille project developed by University of Alabama at Birmingham Assistant Professor Ragib Hasan, Ph.D., took home the prestigious Jury Award and the People’s Choice Award from German International Radio’s Best of Blogs and Online Activism Awards.
Hasan, assistant professor of Computer and Information Sciences and director of the UAB SECure and Trustworthy Computing Lab, began this project to help deliver texts and audiobooks to visually impaired Bangladeshi children who did not have access to educational materials. He used social networks to crowdsource funds for the translation, printing and distribution of textbooks and development of audiobooks.
