Faculty Excellence CAS News November 12, 2014

Dr. Ryoichi Kawai (Department of Physics) and Dr. Elizabeth Sztul (School of Medicine) are the latest winners of the UAB College of Arts and Sciences Interdisciplinary Awards.

The review committee, chaired by UAB Assistant Vice President for Research Dr. Kent Keyser, has completed its review of applications submitted in response to a call for CAS Interdisciplinary Team Proposals in 2014. Eight competitive proposals were received; due to limited resources only one proposal could be funded in this cycle.

Based on the review committee recommendations, the College is pleased to announce the following award:
Researchers: Dr. Ryoichi Kawai (PI-Physics, CAS) and Dr. Elizabeth Sztul (Co-PI, Cell, Developmental and Integrative Biology, SOM)
Proposal Title: "Development of Biophysical Principles of Vesicle Formation"
Funded Amount: $30,000

The next opportunity to submit CAS Interdisciplinary Team proposal will be by January 15th, 2015. Contact Associate Dean Yogesh Vohra (ykvohra@uab.edu) for inquiries regarding future proposal submissions and for any reviewer feedback on earlier applications.

We look forward to receiving more ideas for interdisciplinary team projects and are committed to promote collaborative research that will expand opportunities for our faculty and students.
