Corey Cates and Megan Roegner have both been awarded graduate research fellowships by the National Science Foundation (NSF).
The program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines who are pursuing research-based Master's and doctoral degrees at accredited United States institutions.
Cates and Roegner received two of the three NSF fellowships offered to UAB students in 2015. The awards offer a $34,000 annual stipend to the awardees for three years during their graduate careers.
More than 16,500 students applied this year and only 2,000 such awards were made.
