The Department of Justice Sciences recognized its outstanding students at the department's 2014-2015 Honors and Awards Luncheon on April 22.
The master of ceremonies was Dr. Hyeyoung Lim, director of the department’s criminal justice honors program. Jessica Deitzer was named Outstanding Graduate Student in Criminal Justice, Zachary Wallen was the Outstanding Graduate Student in Forensic Science, and Brooklyn Jade Trahan was the Outstanding Undergraduate Student in Criminal Justice.
The luncheon also featured presentations by members of the 2014-2015 criminal justice honors program, including those by Brooklyn Trahan, Jonathan Dillingham, and Shade King. Brooklyn Trahan, mentored by Dr. Suzanne Perumean-Chaney, presented a study on criminal behavior and victimization in high school student athletes. Shardae King, mentored by Drs. Heith Copes and Hyeyoung Lim, presented a study on the Veterans treatment courts. Jonathan Dillingham, mentored by Dr. Kent Kerley, presented a study on prescription opioid and heroin abuse.
The luncheon also featured Dr. John Sloan, who was honored for 12 years of service as department chair, and associate professor Dr. Kent Kerley, honored for eight years of service as previous director of the criminal justice honors program.
