UAB’s Mock Trial Team enjoyed successes last weekend at the Middle Tennessee State University Mock Trial Invitational Tournament in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
The Green Team compiled a 5-3 record and members won three individual awards after facing teams from the University of South Carolina, Columbia University, the University of Louisiana at Monroe, and the University of Central Florida. Team members taking home individual awards included Chellie Letson and Junhi Chang for Best Witnesses, while Zach Carpenter earned a Best Attorney award. UAB's Gold Team went 4-4 after facing teams from Kennesaw State University, Mississippi Valley State University, Bellarmine University, and the University of Mississippi.
UAB's teams feature fresh talent, with twelve members having no mock trial experience prior to this semester. Team coaches Nathan Mays (Class of '06) and Joseph Dease (Class of '07) said they were very pleased with the team's’ performances and that both teams showed tremendous improvement, growth, and potential. The teams travel next to Memphis, Tennessee, to compete at Rhodes College in the final scrimmage of the semester.
