Ameen Barghi and Yoonhee Ryder have been named finalists for the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship.

Ameen Barghi. Ameen Barghi. Photo by Jared Bash. The Rhodes Scholarships are the world’s oldest international fellowship awards and are given to 32 young Americans who are selected from the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Students from as many as 300 US colleges universities have applied.

Barghi and Ryder will interview for the award in Birmingham on November 21 and 22. Both students are part of the UAB Honors College and the College of Arts and Sciences.

Barghi, who is completing majors in Neuroscience and Translational Research (individually-designed), is an active member of the Science and Technology Honors Program.

Rhodes Scholars are chosen for their outstanding scholarly achievements as well as for their character, commitment to others, and to the common good. The College of Arts and Sciences is proud to have two students as finalists this year.
