William Cockerham Paper Award

The William Cockerham Paper Award was founded in honor of Professor William Cockerham, a longtime professor of Sociology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. It honors his many contributions to the Department and to the discipline of medical sociology, and to encourage the research of graduate students. The William Cockerham Paper Award is awarded to the UAB Medical Sociology graduate student with the best paper in the area of medical sociology.

Sociology Graduate Program Scholarship

The Sociology Graduate Program Scholarship was founded through a generous gift from Ms. Caroline O. Pardo and family for the purpose of creating a scholarship in sociology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. This scholarship is used to provide financial assistance to deserving graduate students in UAB's Department of Sociology. It is awarded to a UAB Medical Sociology graduate student who has successfully defended their thesis proposal or dissertation proposal during the 12 months prior to the scholarship application due date.

Outstanding Graduate Student Award

The Outstanding Graduate Student Award is awarded annually to the UAB Medical Sociology graduate student who has displayed excellence in research, teaching, scholarship, and service during their time in the PhD program. The selection is made by the Graduate Committee during the annual student performance evaluation process.
