What are the key elements of a successful NIH K01 grant application? What hurts an applicant’s chances of receiving a fundable score? Join us on Wednesday, June 27, for the annual Mock NIH Study Section, the culminating event of our Clinical and Translational Science Training Program (CTS-TP), to find out.
The NIH K series, also known as Research Career Development grants, prepares investigators from the postdoctoral level to mid-career stage to independently conduct innovative research in areas of program relevance to NIH and compete for major grant support.
Although a mock review, the study section will use a real K application that was submitted, did not receive a fundable score, was then resubmitted (after receiving a CCTS Panel!), and funded. The reviewers will explore what an NIH study section actually considers when critiquing a K application. Attendees are strongly encouraged to watch the NIH video “NIH Peer Review Revealed” as a primer on the basic processes involved in an NIH grant review.
This year’s reviewers include Dr. Karen Cropsey, Associate Professor, UAB Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology, Dr. Karen Gamble, Assistant Professor, UAB Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology, and CCTS Training Academy Co-Director Dr. David Chaplin, Professor, UAB Microbiology.
The event, which will take place 8:30-10:30 am in Room 407, Ryals School of Public Health, is open to all interested participants. Registration is required, and seats fill fast. Registered attendees will receive a copy of the grant materials to review prior to the event. GoToMeeting (GTM) access will be provided to those unable to participate in person (email
