Nearly 300 faculty members served as CCTS panelists in 2016, with a record-breaking number from our Partner Network. The CCTS Panels Done Quickly (PDQ)/Nascent Panel Projects (NPP) Program provides expert feedback to grant writers, often within weeks of a deadline. As described by CCTS Director Dr. Robert Kimbely, “Reviewing proposals at this stage requires an agile, highly focused response.”
The Benefits
When asked why they participate on CCTS panels, several participants cited the satisfaction of mentoring younger investigators. Others said they enjoy hearing about the science being done in fields related to but different from their own; find it a useful way to find new collaborators; enjoy being part of “team science”; and can list it as a service that counts toward tenure.
The Impact
Our panel recipients enjoy the “CCTS Bump” (e.g., getting funded three times more often than the NIH average) in large part because of the dedication of our panelists.
The Thanks
We wish to publicly thank our esteemed panelists from Auburn University, HudsonAlpha Institute of Biotechnology, Pennington Biomedical Research Center, Southern Research, Tulane University, UAB, University of Mississippi Medical Center, and University of South Alabama who gave of their time, energy, and expertise. The success of the CCTS panels program is “only possible with the involvement of accomplished scientists such as yourselves,” said Dr. Kimberly.
A special thanks to the following “heavy hitters” who participated on five or more panels:
Corinne Augelli-Szafran
