BERD Trainings
We offer multiple venues for BERD support including face-to-face (drop-in clinics, office hours, consultations) and self-taught (BERD-related videos on our CCTS YouTube channel and the R2T game on our Kaizen learning platform).
Bioethics Forum
This annual event brings together researchers, bioethicists, students, and front-line research and clinical staff to discuss special ethics topics in research.
Biomedical Informatics Summer Seminar Series
Cosponsored by the CCTS and the UAB Informatics Institute, this 8-week series will cover key informatics topics and resources for clinical and translational research. Researchers, clinicians, faculty, students (pre-to postdoc), and anyone interested in biomedical informatics and health informatics is welcome to attend.
CCTS Drug Discovery Seminar Series
The CCTS also cosponsors the annual CCTS Drug Discovery Seminar Series with partner Southern Research. The series kicks off in February and runs weekly through the Spring on Fridays from 12pm - 1pm at the Pittman Center for Advanced Medical Studies (PCAMS).
CCTS Monthly Forum
On the first Wednesday of most months, the CCTS hosts an informal gathering known as the CCTS Forum, which offers colleagues an opportunity to learn the latest on a variety of clinical and translational science topics. The focus changes each month to help foster creative and unbridled discussion among a wide range of people from across UAB as well as the broader CCTS Partner Network.
Genomics Medicine Seminar Series
This biweekly seminar series will focus on case presentations or on research seminars related to genomic medicine. The T32 trainees will present their research and their clinical cases from the Genomic Medicine Practicum at this conference along with faculty from UAB and HudsonAlpha. This series will bring together trainees, mentors, and life science experts and provide an excellent platform for debate among participants. The series will be held at UAB and HudsonAlpha alternatively and extended by WebEx to the other site.
i2b2 Trainings
This hands-on training will help investigators learn how to access de-identified patient data, check study feasibility, develop hypotheses, and more. Registration required. Attendees encouraged to obtain i2b2 access prior to training.
Kaizen R2T
The Kaizen training platform, developed by CCTS Informatics, is based on the philosophy of continual improvement and is designed to enhance education through a competitive learning format. Developed as an innovative online quiz game, the aim is to provide a fun and flexible way to learn new competencies. As part of the popular gamification trend, the desired result is for students to learn and retain more information.
Mini-Sabbaticals
The CCTS Training Academy promotes the continuous development of skills and knowledge for learners at all career stages in support of a vibrant, innovative, multidisciplinary research workforce to improve human health and health care. In support of career development, the CCTS offers short-term "immersion" opportunities or mini-sabbaticals.
