James Rimmer, PhD, is the inaugural Lakeshore Foundation Endowed Chair in Health Promotion and Rehabilitation Sciences and director of the Lakeshore Foundation/UAB Collaborative. He is a Professor in the School of Health Professions at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). He has an adjunct faculty appointment in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in the School of Medicine.

Rimmer directs two U.S. technology-driven federally funded centers:

  • the National Center on Health, Physical Activity and Disability (funded by the CDC since 1999)
  • the Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center on Interactive Exercise Technologies and Exercise Physiology for People with Disabilities (funded by the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living and Rehabilitation Research, since 2002).

His research interests explore the use of new and emergent technologies in developing biobehavioral and environmental strategies to promote beneficial physical activity and healthful weight management in adults with physical disabilities.
