Charges for First Day course material are billed directly to your student account, so it’s convenient and affordable – with significant savings. Students have the ability to opt-out of the program if desired.

Billing
The cost of digital course material is automatically added to your student account and is only applicable to courses using the First Day program.
If you are receiving federal financial aid or aid from outside sources (Alabama GI, Voc Rehab, scholarships, etc.) and have completed your Title IV Form, those funds may apply to First Day charges.

Accessing First Course Materials
Once the course is opened by the faculty member, you will be able to access your digital course materials through Canvas. First-time users will need to create an account with the publisher providing the course material. Please ensure your pop-up blocker is disabled within your browser during use.
Each faculty member, and the UAB Bookstore, is trained to help you with your digital course materials and can provide instructions on how to access the materials through Canvas.

Opting Out
Deadline
The date to opt-out for the First Day program is the last day to add/drop classes. If you have a schedule change after that date, please contact the UAB Bookstore to discuss refund options.
Instructions for Opting Out
- Log into Canvas
- Navigate to your course
- Click on the Course Materials located in the left-hand course menu
- After clicking Course Materials you will be redirected to the Course Materials page
- To opt-out you need to click the Opt-Out link on the right side of the window. On this page you will also see the opt-in price and the deadline to make a decision.
- A pop-up window will open asking you to confirm that you would like to opt-out. Select the check box and click Confirm to opt-out
- You will then get the confirmation page that you have opted-out

Can I opt-out of the First Day course materials?
Yes, you may opt-out of purchasing the First Day digital course materials, however, you are still responsible for completing all work assigned by your instructor.What if I want a physical copy of the textbook?
Some publishers give students the option of purchasing a very affordable loose-leaf copy of the book through the UAB Bookstore. The loose-leaf copy can also be ordered online from the UAB Bookstore and shipped directly to you.What happens if I drop a First Day class?
If you drop a First Day course, you will be refunded according university refund policies. If you add the course back, you will be charged the First Cay Course Materials cost again.Why is the Title IV Form necessary?
Title IV funds are federal student aid funds, which are from federal student aid programs administered by the U.S. Department of Education.
