Viewing your Financial Aid Offer
The UAB Office of Student Financial Aid will begin making financial aid offers to incoming freshmen and transfer students beginning in February or within 5-7 business days of completing their FAFSA thereafter. Returning UAB students will receive their financial aid offers beginning in April or within 5-7 business days of completing their FAFSA thereafter.
You can view your Financial Aid Offer on the “My Financial Aid” tab in BlazerNET. Select the respective academic aid year in the drop-down menu. Your financial aid offers will be listed by type of fund. You can view the amount for each semester as well as your full offer. Any UAB Academic Scholarships that you have accepted in BSMART will also be listed under the “Financial Aid Offers” section.
Additional important information can be found below your financial aid offer, including your Pell Grant history, Direct Student Loan history, and estimated cost of attendance for the year.
Accepting your Financial Aid Offer
Your financial aid offers will be listed by funding type. You can choose to accept or decline your entire amount or choose to accept a portion of the amount of your financial aid offer on the “My Financial Aid” tab in BlazerNET. Some types of aid, like the Federal Pell Grant, will be automatically accepted on your behalf. For other types of aid, you will select to accept or decline your offer under the “status” column. If accepting a partial amount, you will enter the amount that you would like to accept. Please note that the amount you accept will be evenly divided among the semesters listed.
Completing Additional Requirements
Once you have accepted your financial aid offers, please complete the following applicable steps to ensure your aid is properly disbursed to your account.
- Sign your Master Promissory Note (MPN) – students who have accepted a Direct Student Loan must have a signed Master Promissory Note on record. You can complete your MPN at www.studentaid.gov. The MPN serves as an agreement to repay your loans and any associated interest as well as the conditions of your loan(s).
- Complete Loan Entrance Counseling – students who have accepted a Direct Student Loan must complete Loan Entrance Counseling at www.studentaid.gov. Entrance Counseling ensures that you understand the responsibilities and obligations associated with borrowing a Direct Student Loan.
- Report additional expected resources on the Resource Form – students should complete the Resource Information Form to indicate any assistance they expect to receive from outside sources, including UAB Departmental Scholarships, UAB Educational Assistance, Alabama GI Dependent benefits, Alabama Vocational Rehabilitation benefits, Graduate Assistantship, or State Scholarships, etc. Students are not required to submit the form if they will not receive additional assistance but are encouraged to indicate “no other assistance” on the form to prevent additional notifications.
- Complete the Title IV Authorization Form – Completing this form will allow UAB to apply any Title IV aid you are awarded to your account to cover minor prior term charges and/or any other non-mandatory charges you may incur such as parking fees, graduation fee, bookstore fees, etc.
Receiving Your Aid
Your financial aid will be disbursed to your student account on the first day of classes each semester. Prior to the first day of classes, your accepted offers will be listed as anticipated aid on your student account balance.
