I am currently serving as an Adjunct Instructor and as an Apprenticeship Supervisor for UAB's Graduate Program for Teaching ESL where I oversee MA-TESOL apprentice teachers in a college-preparatory writing program for local adult ELLs. I am also a lecturer in the Department of English and Philosophy at Auburn University Montgomery. Prior to that I was a first year composition instructor at both UAB and the University of Montevallo. In the past, I had served as a teacher in a high school English department, in a home-bound education area for a public school district, in two university intensive English programs, and in one community college basic English program.

In addition to teaching, I also am continuing my education in UAB's Education Studies in Diverse Populations doctoral program. I earned a BS in Secondary English Education from the University of Illinois, an MA in English Studies-TESOL from Illinois State University, and an EdS in TESOL from UAB.

While my first teaching love was introducing high school seniors to British Literature, my graduate programs have taken me on a different path, one that includes practice and research in supporting the transition of linguistic minority and first-generation students to college coursework.
