UAB Alert Status Update: All Clear

Updated 11/21/17 3 pm:

  • On the morning of Nov. 21, UAB asked employees to avoid drinking discolored (brown) water while Birmingham Water Works addressed an issue affecting downtown Birmingham and other areas.
  • “According to Rick Jackson of the Birmingham Water Works Board, the issue was caused by an old water main that was out of commission that is now back in service.” (credit: WBRC Fox 6)
  • As of 1 p.m. Tuesday, Birmingham Water Works is reporting that the brown water issue downtown has been addressed from their end.
  • UAB Maintenance is seeing clear water after flushing/running water in the majority of buildings.
  • UAB Maintenance asks that if you have discolored water in your area, please avoid drinking and run the water until clear.
  • Once water is clear, return to regular use.
