I looked at this program for over two years because I was nervous about applying. I had been out of school for 13 years and did not know what to expect. I had to learn how to study again, but in the end, I gained more knowledge in 18-months than I could have imagined. I would not change anything about this experience and I look forward to applying these skills to my current field of work.

I have 30 years of experience in the construction business and I started the program to be a better construction professional. I soon noticed that I was referencing information that I learned through the courses that I was taking in daily work meetings and while making presentations. The knowledge that I gained is a tribute to the CECM professors.

The graduate school experience taught me time management, organizational skills, how to juggle priorities and to invest in myself.

Thanks to this amazing program, I was just promoted to Civil Engineer I status by the county where I work. One of the best parts of the program are the friends that I have made from the very first group project. We communicate (network) multiple times per day, on weekends and even between terms.

While at UAB, I increased my construction knowledge and gained great confidence. I moved from the gas and oil industry to healthcare construction, and changed roles from a project engineer to a senior project manager in just two years.

The curriculum aligned perfectly with the challenges that I was facing at work. The skills learned through the program allowed me to better resolve those challenges, to be more competitive and to increase my work opportunities and responsibilities. I have literally used every skill set learned from my classes. It just confirms that I made the right choice when joining the CEM Program.

The CEM course work was valuable and immediately useful. During my time in the program I have obtained my general contractors license, I have received two promotions and my salary has almost doubled. I know that the knowledge and lessons gained in the program will make me a more confident and successful person for the rest of my life.

I am glad that I chose the UAB CEM program because of the great education, the people that I have met and for the opportunities that will open up for my family’s construction business.

I have currently received three promotions since starting the program and hope to inspire other girls to pursue their dream in engineering.

Joining the program and attending Boot Camp was kind of scary because I did not know how it would turnout, but I can say that it went very well. I am now overseeing multimillion dollar projects, training others and expanding my project management career.

This program helped me understand where the construction industry is going and the value of knowledge. The construction industry is forever changing and we as project managers have to stay ahead of the curve and current with the latest technology and software. I received all of this at UAB.

Since I started this program I have earned my PMP and LEED AP certifications. The courses offered in the CEM program makes acquiring these certifications such a breeze. This program has certainly expedited my construction career.

The CEM experience has helped me grow as an individual, but it has also influenced my career. About a year after I started this program I was offered two separate promotions, one with my current employer and one from a different company. I decided to stay in my current position but received large merit raise, which is unheard of in my construction field.

The CEM program has provided great project management skills and construction knowledge, as I plan my transition from military to civilian life after graduation.

This program has really shown me how to communicate virtually. Attending live online classes, working on online group projects, having Skype conversations and sharing files across the country. This technology has really helped me to communicate better at my job.

One of the biggest consideration that I had before joining the CEM program was the time and money. I can assure you, for me, this is money and time well spent, and the knowledge gained will continue to pay dividends for the rest of my life.

Who knew a person from a village in India, who has not studied the English language, would come to the USA and work for a multi-national company. I am very grateful for the knowledge gained from the wonderful UAB CEM program.

The classes have been so beneficial to me and I have really enjoyed the program. I have learned so much, met wonderful people and I have enjoyed being part of the UAB family.

The information presented through the curriculum is not only educational, but it is very applicable to the daily duties as a project manager.

It has always been a dream of mine to own my own business. Because of this program and having the knowledge and resources from the courses, I feel ready to become an entrepreneur.

I really enjoyed the program. The faculty is just superb and always available for questions and emails. While all of the courses were very good, I really found the group projects to be very helpful. Even though we were in each other presences only once at Boot Camp, the group projects really created a sense of community and network. The relationship and bonding with classmates was great.

Every class brought something positive to the table. Having hands-on access to the P6 Scheduling and Building Information Modeling software was just great. The program tested our perseverance and helped build professional character.

I shopped around a lot looking for the right program and I always looked at the course descriptions. When I looked at the UAB website, it was like a checklist of what every hiring manager or project manager that I talked to was looking for. Thanks to this program and thanks to the professors, I have finally gotten the job that I wanted as a project manager with a large construction company. Also, because of the courses and what I learned, I recently even got a big promotion as a manager over the southeast region.

I have several friends that already graduated from the program and kept telling me if I wanted to advance my career I needed to do this. I saw the benefits of the program right from the beginning. Thanks to all of the professors for the knowledge that I have received while in the program; I will be sure to tell others.

I was not sure about an online program because I did not want it to be like an independent study course. I thought that this program may be similar to that, but I found out very quickly that just was not the case. We had an interactive live class online every week, talking to the professor and to my classmates. I now have an in-depth understanding of project management and what project managers are responsible for on a daily basis. The courses are set–up to match with real world settings. I know this program will continue to help me in my career.

The online experience (program) was really laid out well and I felt very involved with the classmates and the instructors. I have taken an online degree program before and this one was much better. I also enjoyed Boot Camp, coming to Birmingham, and meeting my classmates and the professors. The knowledge that I received has really helped me in construction. Also, because of this degree program, my company is letting me become more involved with our project management department. I enjoyed the whole experience.

I cannot say enough about how grateful I am for what I have learned through this program. I spent a lot of time looking at different schools and different programs trying to find one that match my job and my career and this one matched perfectly. Now that it is over and I am done, it was a perfect choice for me. Although it (the program) was not easy, it was worth it.

The flexibility of this program has helped me tremendously. Dr. H. did a great job of explaining the responsibilities and roles of a project manager, and what is expected from a project manager. He also taught us the individual strengths that you should possess to be a good project manager, and how to manage your time while leading multiple projects. The experience and knowledge (received) will never be forgotten.

I cannot thank Dr. H and Dianne enough for what you have done for me and allowing me to be part of this program. It is something that I will always speak highly or volumes about to anyone seeking this kind of interest. The online portion of the program was big for me; it allowed me to study on my own time after work and seeing my family, which would not have been possible otherwise.

One of the best classes in the program was the BIM (Building Information Modeling) course. Actually seeing it works was huge. It was a tough class, and I got extra help from a classmate and the professor, but this was one of the best things that I have learned, ever. This program has exposed me to a lot of new concepts, such as risk management techniques, business skills like being able to write a business plan, and how to manage a small business.

Utilizing the tools that you guys have given us over the past 20 months, it provides me the confidence to make intelligent decisions without second guessing myself.

After getting caught-up in the housing recession and having to close my business, I needed to reinvent myself. I applied and was accepted into the UAB CEM program. Taking all of these classes and using software like Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, Revit, and Navisworks invigorated me to get back out there. Besides learning a lot, the program built my confidence and I really needed that.

Coming from Hawaii, our resources are bare and I have always wanted to pursue more sustainable green building practices. I really enjoyed the green building course and LEED construction. Our construction and demolition debris goes to the landfill. There is only so much land on our island, so I want to encourage a plan for more recycling. I hope to join a company to help build a better tomorrow.

I appreciate the diversity in the CEM program. Having the opportunity to work with so many different people, from different walks of life, and in different industries, is a big benefit to the program. I have learned a lot just sharing experiences with my classmates and working together on group projects. This program has definitely benefited me professionally from the start and I am confident that it will continue to grow my career.

Relationship wise, I got to meet a lot of great people through the CEM program, which made it easier because it was like having a good neighbor or a friend when doing the hard (group project) work that we do in this program.

As a project manager for a highway construction company, my project net margin for 2011 was 1.3%, which was the worst margin for all 18 managers in my company. Because of the studies and the courses we get in this program, my net margin for 2015 was 12.3%. Now, the other project managers are asking what my secret is, and I tell them the knowledge, tools, techniques, and studies from the UAB CEM program.

Because of the CEM program, I received a really big raise because the company that I worked for could really see the value in me, but it also speaks to the value in the way that I am investing in myself.

I realized that I owe both you (Dianne), Dr. H, and the rest of the professors at UAB a debt of gratitude. Being that I am enrolled in another master’s program, I can clearly see that UAB was far and away superior to any other institution that I have been a part of. In my opinion, it was because of the abundance of knowledge and genuine concern for our success that sets your program heads and shoulders above the others.

Dianne, I just wanted to express my gratitude for all you have done for me over the last 18 months in the program. You have always been so kind and helpful with any and all issues. This program has definitely helped me grow as a person and as a professional. Almost everything that I do day-to-day at work has been brought up in one of the classes. I am bringing construction services in-house for my company, so we will now manufacture and also construct our greenhouse structures. It just shows that the value of this program is tremendous and applies very well to the real world. UAB has been a very good experience for me.

I really appreciate Dianne, Dr. H., Fran and all of the professors, and the assistance that they provided when I was struggling. I have taken away more than just the skills and knowledge of the program; I have grown as a person, learned to overcome challenges and to persevere.

I enjoyed the courses and the bond made with several of my teammates. I really enjoyed the construction law class and the interactive group approach taken during the mock mediation and arbitration. All in all, I have no doubt in my mind that this program will help me in my future endeavors.

Having an engineering bachelor’s degree, I was feeling that I was lacking certain management skills. I cannot tell you how awesome this was from the beginning, and after completing the first four courses I realized that this was probably one of the best decisions that I have made in my life. Being an international student I have gone to so many schools, five different institutions, but I will say that UAB is the best of all.

Through the help of all of my professors and departmental staff, I have learned tremendously and it is easy to perceive that you all LOVE what you do at UAB. Thanks a million!

I started pursuing the construction engineering management program to help me prepare for the construction engineering portion of the engineering license examination. It was important that this program is tailored to working professionals. I am now armed with new construction management skills, a thirst for more knowledge and will continue my education past this degree.

When I asked my supervisor how this program changed me over the past 18 months, she said that I was a better communicator, an innovative thinker, my team leading skills had improved, that I was more efficient and could handle a larger work load, and that I was more confident when making decisions. I want to thank all of the instructors for making this journey possible.

As an architect, this program switched my mind-set and the way I think from the design side to the build side. I recently became employed thanks to taking these classes because I can now do everything that they need for me to do. I want to start my own design-build company and these courses have allowed me to look further into how to run that company and make it profitable.

As a technical architect with the Army Corp of Engineers, I have taken what I have learned from this program and directly applied it to what I do at work. I had performed some project management duties prior to the CEM experience. I recently made the permanent transition to project management, and now I am the sole manager for over 18 different construction and design projects.

I had no idea how my career was going to evolve because of this program. The biggest benefit was that I was promoted from the plant into a management position. All that I learned from this program I was able to apply in my day-to-day life. I do not think that I would be as good as I am today without this program.

This was a challenging and rewarding experience. I have gained a greater appreciation for the construction industry through this program. It has spiked my curiosity, and made me ask why and how on a job site instead of just taking things for granted. Ultimately, what makes this program great is the professors’ eagerness and availability to help students. I will be forever changed because of the program.

I never met and educator who has such a passion for teaching like Dr. Hitchcock. The way that he engages with students and translates the information so that it can be understood is amazing. Now I have knowledge that can change my world.

I have been fortunate to find a position that allows me to use and grow my knowledge that I received from this program. It has put me on the fast track to becoming a project manager.

I loved being in the program at UAB. Although frustrating at times, I do not regret one bit the time and effort and expense to invested in myself. Every single day I use something that I learned from the program.

As a young project engineer, seeing the CEM classes tie in directly with what I was doing in the field and out on the project site has reaffirmed the decision I made 19-months ago when I joined this program.

This CEM program has really opened up doors for me. Five weeks into the first semester of the program I received a promotion with the county where I work. Since then I have received other promotions where I now manage employees, track equipment and must communicate with a large number of people. I am very thankful for my classmates, and for the professors and their professionalism day in and day out. I have been in the military for so many years and the CEM program has certainly set me up for success.

I joined the CEM program to enhance my personal and professional development, and to assume a greater responsibility in my current field. I looked at similar programs from other colleges, but after doing a comparison I decided that the UAB program would better suite me.

After moving to a new state, I was out of work for about a year and could not land a job in construction. After listing the CEM Program on my resume, I interviewed for a Superintendent position, but was hired as a Project Manager. This program has been invaluable and I am seeing the benefits even before graduation.

This was a real investment (in myself). There is a great sense of reward to take something that I learned and use it each day. Because of what I have learned in this (CEM) program I had an opportunity to move into a new leadership position. Thank you to our instructors for their patience, their interest, and their desire to really help us grow; it has been fantastic.

The UAB (CEM) program has been a monumental life changing experience. The teachers have been amazing, the students in group projects are awesome, and I want to thank everyone.

Even with 10 years of construction experience, I could not climb the ladder fast enough with just a bachelor’s degree. Because of this (CEM) program and because of the knowledge that I have acquired from the courses, I have just accepted a position within my company as a project engineer.

After my first semester at UAB I was hired by a medium size general contractor to do construction field work. Since that time, I have gained a lot of field knowledge and soaked up a lot of class information. Once I graduate, I will be promoted as a project manager. I want to thank the CEM program for such a life changing experience and for opening so many new doors.

I came from Egypt to the U.S. to get out of the oil and gas industry and into general construction. Having no experience in this industry, I searched the internet for training. I joined the UAB (CEM) program because it was different from others and talked about project management, scheduling, estimating, BIM and managerial skills needed in the construction industry. After my second semester I received a job with a heavy civil contractor, and it has been awesome.

The biggest benefit from this CEM program are the (peer) relationships. I am so thankful that I developed those contacts at Boot Camp and continued them during the program. It is so wonderful to have a support system or someone to lean on when you do not understand something. So, thank you to all of my group mates!

I chose the UAB CEM program because it was 100% online, an accredited program, nationally ranked and highly regarded, the curriculum fit my needs, I was impressed with the faculty during my interview, and UAB is a very reputable university. Because of the program, I have increased my salary, have made some great memories, and would not trade the experience for anything.

If I could speak to anyone considering the CEM program, I would say that a rewarding adventure awaits you. It can be a humbling and challenging experience, but every step along the way will become well worth the journey. After building houses for several years, I recently applied for a position as an assistant project manager in the commercial construction industry. Without the challenges that the CEM program has given me, I do not feel that I would be prepared for this role. Because of the classes in the CEM program, I have gained a greater confidence in the work that I do every day. My supervisor would agree, because some of the younger folks in our company are starting the CEM program right now.
