On September 21st, UAB engineering students took advantage of a full day of networking with more than 100 employer partners at the 2023 Engineering Career Fair.
Hundreds of UAB students from six undergraduate degree programs and several graduate programs attended the event, where they were able to meet with representatives from a wide range of industries. The event was held over two separate sessions in the Hill Student Center ballroom to accommodate the number of employers, which has grown steadily in recent years.
“Engineering Career Fair day showcases the talent of our students and the strength of the UAB Engineering Community,” said Neil Adams, director of the Engineering Career Center. “There is no greater validation than students telling you they already have an interview lined up after a conversation or alumni who return to campus eager to recruit.”
Employers recognize the value of these conversations as well. From long-standing partners like Alabama Power and Brasfield & Gorrie to newer ones such as Organogenesis, Biosense Webster, and Kratos, the number of participating companies is evidence of the strong demand for skilled workers in engineering fields.
All engineering students and alumni have direct access to employers hiring interns, co-ops, and entry-level engineers through this event. Each semester, the career fair leads to job offers and acceptances.
“Hands-on experience is a critical component of engineering education at UAB, and these employers help provide that while giving students a tremendous boost as they begin to explore career opportunities” said SOE Dean Jeff Holmes, M.D., Ph.D.
